SpaLava

When you hear the word ‘lava’, your instinct would normally be to run in the opposite direction. But at AYANA, lava has become nature’s latest antidotes to tired, damaged skin, with the award-winning Spa On The Rocks launching an exclusive new treatment that maximizes the healing properties of natural volcanic lava.

The ‘Lava Me Tender’ treatment celebrates the many benefits of the rich mineral content of natural volcanic lava, such as talc, gypsum, calcite, apatite, feldspar, quartz, topaz and corundum. Because of these elements, volcanic lava therapies have long been used to treat skin disorders such as acne and psoriasis, as lava is known to detoxify and remove deep pore impurities while nourishing and healing the skin. Now, Thermes Marins Spa at AYANA has brought lava to the ocean at its Spa on the Rocks treatment villas, anchored on natural rocks amidst the Indian Ocean with uninterrupted views of the waves below and the horizon.

“As the only Thermes Marins spa in south-east Asia, we strive to bring the latest therapies from Europe to Bali, using the very best products available,” said AYANA’s Director of Spa, Michi Sonoda. “This treatment is an antioxidant infusion and the perfect preparation for a special event like your wedding day when you want to achieve flawless, even skin. It’s also an anti-ageing remedy as it restores skin radiance and elasticity. But this treatment is not just about the aesthetic benefits; the Spa on the Rocks location enables guests to soak up the sounds, smell and vibration of the ocean, as they combine their skin treatment with the unrivaled tranquility and luxury of this unique location. This truly delivers the dual benefits of both beauty, and pure pampering.”

All products used are from Thermes Marins’ lava range, with high mineral contents including laminaria seaweed-based products, yellow volcanic clay, thermal mud from Gorga and marine collagen. These anti-oxidant agents are known to restructure the mesh of skin by restoring its radiance and elasticity.

The Lava Me Tender experience begins with a relaxing Crystal de Mer foot soak, mineral lava body scrub to remove dead skin cells, and luxurious black rice bath to nourish and soften skin. A full body, deep tissue massage using lava stones and anti-oxidant essential flower oil will increase circulation, as the natural heat released from the lava stones eases muscle tension. A volcanic earth body wrap followed by a firming lotion concludes the treatment, and locks in the improved skin moisture and elasticity. Fresh Limeberry Squash (lime, strawberry, lemongrass and Sprite) is served during the Bath Bomb to complete the experience.

Amami Yuki

AYANA recently hosted one of Japan’s most celebrated stage and movie actresses Amami Yuki to film a new TV commercial for Japanese networks. Her visit was also a chance for her to soak up the Balinese hospitality and tranquil environment, as she recovers from a heart attack suffered in May which caused her to drop out of her latest theatrical show.

Amami-san, who had been starring in “L’honneur de Napoleon” at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre, was rushed to hospital where doctors said she had suffered a mild heart attack. She was ordered to take 7-10 days of bed rest.

Her trip to Bali was her first overseas ‘holiday’ since the incident. The actress last week told a press conference in Tokyo that her visit to AYANA Resort and Spa Bali was a major factor in the recovery of her health, and the highlight of her time in Bali.

If there is one thing all guests must do while in Bali, it is to stay at AYANA and enjoy the resort’s world-class service, she said.

Amami-san visited AYANA to film a TV commercial for H.I.S, the biggest Japan travel agent for Bali.

The TV commercial, featuring Rock Bar and Spa on the Rocks, has been airing on all major Japanese TV stations since last week.

Amami-san’s career took off in 1987, when she joined the Takarazuka Revue, a Japanese all-female musical theatre troupe, and retired in 1995. She was the youngest actress in the company’s history to be cast in a top male role.

She was involved in various famous musicals when she was in the company, including Gone With the Wind, where she starred as Rhett Butler, and Me and My Girl.

After resigning from the company, she continued to work as a TV and movie actress. Her most notable role is that of Maya Akutsu, the main character in The Queen’s Classroom.

So your holiday is coming up. No stressful back-to-back meetings, no panic mode when the alarm goes off. You have even packed a new wardrobe to flaunt your best assets. The challenge is ?to keep them after you return from tropical Bali; where cocktails and flavor rich cuisines will be your new besties.

Follow these tips at AYANA to ensure your waistline survives a spillover, without having to commit to a militant Atkins Diet after the holiday. Because that is no fun for anyone!

Freeflow champagne

Not. This is another form of bubbles available at AYANA’s award-winning spa. Sign up for a session at the Aquatonic Pool and immerse yourself in 700 million liters of water directly supplied from the underlying Indian Ocean to rehabilitate injured muscles, improve circulation and metabolism, relieve stress and for relaxation and drop 500 calories. Yes, you read that right, 500 calories per session! Say no more, I’ll drink to that!

Namaste.

As one guilty Yoga ditcher, Well-Placed Insider learned the hard way that it was a bad decision; after seeing ladies rocking cute swimwear and toned limbs at the beach. And they said yoga was the one to thank! Outdoor yoga is more enticing than a cooped-up class, so I choose Sunrise Yoga at Chandra Surya to embrace the discipline. Performed on landscaped lawns against spectacular ocean views at AYANA Resort and Spa, a qualified yoga instructor will lead you through Surya Namaskara movements to stretch your body and energize your mind.

Bring your nutritionist along on your holiday.

Oops… You are not Oprah. But, you can bring your nutritionist’s philosophies with you.

Over-indulgence in culinary adventures is mandatory on any ‘holiday bucket list’. ?But do not get carried away if you want to avoid that post-holiday crash diet. Plan your meals with AYANA’s Spa Cafe chefs; Agung and Dedi. They can suggest you healthy and tasty meals where calories and nutrition have been carefully counted to make sure your jeans stay as loose as when you first arrived. Or even a bit looser!

Kubu Stairclimb Challenge.

There are 197 steps to Kubu Beach for your competitive soul to beat. And no inclinator to get you back up. But the crystal-clear turquoise water is reward enough for all the sweat (and calories) you will have released. A seaside jaunt will fill your lungs with fresh air and release those endorphins to keep you in a good mood all day long. Extra benefit? ?A dose of Vitamin D is recommended daily by your doctor!

Jogging or Cycling Tour

AYANA’s extensive 77 hectares of gardens are surrounded by lush, tall trees, so you will enjoy the scenery and shade. For a more challenging course, turn left after exiting the resort’s security gate and head downhill to the large temple, your journey back up will have you puffing! If you want to include some culture in your itinerary, rent the resort’s bicycle and ask their guest activities staff to escort you to the local fish market. Fish contains fewer calories than red-meat and has more protein, so select your favorite and sign up for a cooking class at AYANA afterwards.

Stroke some laps at AYANA’s Infinity Pool.

The resort has five amazing pools. Do laps at the 25 meters Main Upper Pool; with Bali’s beautiful blue sky against the horizon as your backdrop, freestyling would never feel this rewarding!

TRX your biceps and legs

Have you been waiting to wear that muscle tee you just purchased online? (It is okay to admit you bought a muscle shirt :-)) Or those cute shorts? Tone your whole body with TRX suspension at AYANA’s fitness center. The resort’s professional trainers will guide your technique and target specific areas. Bottoms up!

Back-hand and swings

Fan of ball games? Practice your back-hand and maintain your firm and lean look at the resort’s tennis pavilion. Or, make sure your swing stays well oiled with a round at AYANA’s 18 hole golf-putting course.

Now, go pack your suitcase, include a pair of sneakers, and enjoy an energetic escape at AYANA Resort and Spa. Or, ignore all of the above and make the only exercise you do the bicep curl as you raise your cocktail glass to your lips once again.

The choice is all yours!

Miss Universe contestants from Western Australia yesterday took on a stair climb challenge at AYANA Resort and Spa Bali, in preparation for the Miss Universe national finals in Melbourne on 12 July.

The six beauties conquered the 197 steps at AYANA’s private Kubu Beach with grace and poise, before being rewarded with a rejuvenating two-hour therapeutic session in the resort’s Aquatonic Seawater Therapy Pool, one of the world’s largest thalasso pools.

Finally, they wrapped up their day with sunset cocktails at Rock Bar-bypassing the queue to Bali’s most iconic sunset look-out spot.

The stairclimb challenge was part of a week-long fitness and pampering retreat in Bali for the six WA finalists: Tamlin Dobrich, Kirsten Clemens, Meaghan Slattery, Charlotte Goodlet, Caris Tiivel and Rachel Ayris (sister of current Miss Universe Australia, Renae Ayris).

They were selected from a field of 24 Miss Universe WA finalists last month, following judging rounds that included casual wear, swimwear and formal evening gowns. The woman deemed Australia’s finest will be heading to the Miss Universe 2013 finals at a venue yet to be disclosed. It will be the 62nd Miss Universe pageant.

The ever so poised finalists and their chaperone pose gracefully after tackling the Kubu Beach 197 stair-climb challenge. TWICE. Go girls!

Run Forest Run! This beauty can beat any beast in a sprint race, any day.

There are spa junkies and then there are Aqua-Spa Junkies, who once they experience thalassotherapy, quickly become addicted to the ancient healing benefits especially muscle toning, tension relief, anti-ageing, improved sleep quality and detoxification.
Well-Placed Insider is stands among this latter group, and so is very happy to share the news of the resort’s new Freeflow Bubbles Package, offering unlimited access to the world’s largest Aquatonic Seawater Therapy Pool.

Freeflow Bubbles may typically be a reference to unlimited Champagne, but AYANA’s version comes without the hangover. Rest assured that an aspirin would not be needed afterwards. In fact, your Freeflow Bubbles Passport is valid for up to seven days and will have you feeling more energized, relaxed and- yes- younger than ever! Now, who would say no to that?

An ancient healing ritual from France dating back 5,000 years, thalassotherapy’s main objective is to increase blood circulation and restore vital minerals lost as a result of stress, pollution and poor diet/lifestyle (guilty!). Well-Placed Insider has learned that the secret lies in the fact that the chemical composition of seawater is so similar to that of human blood, so the skin is able to absorb trace minerals and ions such as magnesium, potassium and calcium sulphates when immersed in water heated to body temperature. The Aquatonic Pool at AYANA’s Thermes Marins Spa contains 700 million liters of water directly supplied from the underlying Indian Ocean and warmed to optimum temperatures to rebalance such mineral deficiencies. Thanks to its floating effects, you are able to effortlessly exercise through 12 hydromassage stations containing over 60 individual therapeutic jet streams, micro-bubbles and geysers to rehabilitate injured muscles, to relieve stress and for relaxation.

If only exercising could always be this fun… who needs a sweaty cardio work-out?
These are just some of the benefits of AYANA’s Aquatonic Seawater Therapy Pool:

  • relief of the symptoms of eczema, psoriasis, back and muscular pain, tension and stress
  • muscle toning, reduction in cellulite, improved metabolism and cardiovascular functioning
  • strengthening of immune system and lymphatic drainage for muscle repair, improved sleep quality and relaxation
  • skin detoxification and nourishment to support anti-ageing therapies

The Freeflow Bubbles Package is valid until 30 June 2013 and priced as below:
3 day Freeflow Bubbles Passport
Rp.1.350.000++

5 day Freeflow Bubbles Passport
Rp.2.125.000++

7 day Freeflow Bubbles Passport
Rp.2.800.000++

Each session is for up to 2 hours and guests may gain access as often as they like during the Aquatonic Pool

Fourteen underprivileged Indonesian women have begun three months of on-the-job training at AYANA Resort and Spa Bali as part of the second annual ‘ROLE MODELS’ program, in partnership with R.O.L.E Foundation. The women are training as either Food & Beverage servers, Cooks or Spa Therapists.

Well-Placed Insider had an up close interview with one of them, Maria Ekawati.

” Many dare to dream… But not all of them are bold enough to wake up and try to make it come true. I woke up from my dream, found ROLE and I am now getting closer every day to grasp a realization”- Maria Ekawati, R.O.L.E Foundation student and trainee at Thermes Marins Bali at AYANA.

Where are you from?
Riau, Sumatra. I have lived in Bali for more than 10 years.

What do you think about this R.O.L.E program and how did you get the opportunity?
A social division clerk at church shared the information about it. I remember, around 18 women registered. Knowing that R.O.L.E can provide education and training programs, and not to mention the job offers R.O.L.E can link us to. I signed up as well. At R.O.L.E, I study English, gardening, basic F&B service, and the most important for me is Spa training at R.O.L.E ‘s Nusa Dua training facility.

What gets you excited about being a R.O.L.E student? And what makes you nervous?
The training is hard. From the total 18 friends I know registered, 15 have already left. But… to carry the AYANA name on your shoulder, even only as a trainee… to me, this is big. Real big. On the other side, that name is what is getting me nervous too. I always question myself, what did I do to deserve this wonderful opportunity? How can I deliver as expected by the guests who are assuredly a high profile? Will I disappoint my seniors at AYANA? How to make them proud?

Has a career in the hotel industry always been your passion? If so, in which area specifically?
I dream about it, I wish for it, I visualize it in my everyday life. I am a big believer of reaching for a big dream and this is one such dream. My passion is in the Spa industry. So, you can imagine how thankful I am to get my first chance at this worldly known Spa.

What is your message to your other friends?
Dream big. But do not forget to wake up!

What do you want to achieve?
Be a professional spa therapist. And with this training program at AYANA, I think I am armed enough to someday apply for a job. Maybe… at AYANA.

We are all still drying off after annual training with a Thermes Marins Hydrotherapy trainer this month! Nine of our therapists took part in 6 days of intensive training to review techniques, skills, products and facilities for our hydrotherapy treatments, including Underwater Massage, Aqua Exercise, Sea Breeze Massage and Oceanic Ritual package (my personal favorite). The trainer, who is based at Thermes Marins headquarters in St Malo, France – nice spot to be living but then Bali’s not too bad either! – also checked and approved the temperature and water quality in the Aquatonic Seawater Therapy Pool, which contains 700 million liters of seawater pumped in from the Indian Ocean. Everybody raves about Rock Bar, but personally I think sunset in the Aquatonic Pool is not-to-be-missed ;-) It’s even better if you follow it up with a Rock Bar cocktail afterwards – when the crowds have died down a bit and you can enjoy your beverage under a star-lit sky listening to the waves of the spot-lit ocean. That’s why we call this package the Perfectonic! Sundowner anyone?

PS – Happy Second Anniversary for AYANA! It’s now been 2 years since we rebranded as an independent resort. Another reason to celebrate :-)
